Toothpaste commercials told me that fluoride helped prevent tooth decay understanding that I should brush my teeth with fluoride toothpaste, not surprisingly when you used it day-to-day. The dentist gave me fluoride treatments for my teeth. Fluoride was also included in municipal water supplies, so drinking water (and anything along with it) gave us a daily dose of fluoride too.
